About Mold Removal

If your home was flooded by a severe storm, a leaky roof or a broken pipe, mold spores could begin to spread due to the excessive moisture. Having mold present in your home causes a musty odor and is hazardous to your health.

  1. Significance

    • Removing mold is crucial to individuals who suffer from respiratory problems and medical conditions, including cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy. Continuing to allow mold to spread within your home may result in worsening existing symptoms or causing healthy individuals to become ill.

    Prevention/Solution

    • To clean mold from small items such as small rugs, toys and other things made or cloth, wash them in hot water. Clean appliances, floors and counters with a bleach and water solution. The solution ratio should be limited to one cup of bleach to every gallon of water. Always use room-temperature water when mixing with bleach. Scrub surfaces with stiff-bristle brushes and always wear a mask and rubber gloves.

    Time Frame

    • Generally, if items have been wet for two days or longer, mold has had the opportunity to set in. Other items that are made of more porous material may be at risk of mold infestation sooner than two days.

    Considerations

    • Even though it is not visible, mold can still be lurking on certain objects within the household. Remove carpet, wood or laminate flooring. Mold spores can become trapped between the subfloor and the floor covering. Throw away sofas, chairs and mattresses that have sustained water damage. Contact a mold inspector through the aid of your homeowner's insurance company.

    Warning

    • Because of the unknown effects to your health, vacate your home during the mold removal process. Never re-enter your mold-infested home without wearing a mask.
