Types

Teachers can train to teach elementary, middle or high school. An advanced degree is required to teach at the college or university level. Elementary teachers often teach in a self-contained classroom. That means they teach all subjects to the same students all day. Middle and high school teachers usually teach one or two subjects. The students rotate through the various classes throughout the day for middle and high school. Some teachers choose to teach elective classes like art, choir or theater.
