About Solar Panels
Solar panels are a crucial part for the expansion of alternative energy resources and by understanding how these panels operate, you can begin to understand why they are such an effective resource to get energy from. Using silicone technology, Solar panels will most certainly expand in the future and become more relied on to power our homes and lives.

Function
-
Solar panels operate using crystallized silicone chips that take energy from the sun and convert it to electricity. This electricity process is done by using thin layers of positive and negative powered substances and a piece of metal to conduct the power. The sunlight hits the crystals and splits it up, sending electrons through the P level, off the metal and back into the N level of the solar panel. The protons stay in the P level and when they meet at a connection point, power is given off through the metal piece and goes through wires connected to the solar panels.
One panel is pretty small, so several must connected together to form a Photovoltaic Grid. Grids are all different sizes depending on what they are used for. A common solar power set-up for a home could take up half of a roof, while small grids could power street lights or construction signs. Larger grids, encompassing over 30 acres of acres of land, can supply power to multiple areas and feed that power right into a power grid.
Misconceptions
-
While solar panels do need the sun to operate, many people think that they will not have power when the sun is not out. This is not the case though, because solar panels are enabled to be attached to a large battery housing device that can store enough power to support a home's electricity for over a week.

Types
-
Solar panels are used to create power for different types of things. The most common is electricity, but solar ovens provide heat instead of having to burn something off. Solar Stills are used to separate salt from ocean water to create fresh water that is drinkable. Solar ponds are giant heaters that use the sunlight to heat water for homes and bathing among other things. Another solar panel gaining popularity are the solar cars that do not use gas and work using solar panels on top of the car.
Benefits
-
Solar panels are beneficial for the future for many reasons. One of the main reasons is that solar power is renewable energy source because we will never run out of sunlight. Solar power also does not emit any pollution into the air like other forms of energy. Solar panels also do not have to take up extra space in a lot of cases. Like individual systems, they can easily be installed right on your roof.
Significance
-
Solar panels can change the way people live and get their electricity. In fact, if people have a large enough solar panel installed on their home, they can get free electricity and even give out electricity to neighbors for money. With rebates and incentives from local governments, the solar panels will pay themselves off in less than 10 years.
