What Is the Best Toothpaste to Use?

There is nothing quite like that fresh feeling in the mouth after brushing the teeth. With so many toothpastes on the market today, it is not always easy to find the right one that will deliver that great feeling to the mouth every day, sometimes twice. This article will be devoted to finding out just that.

  1. History

    • Toothpaste has been around since 300 BC. It was first used in China and was made up of fragmented bones, shells, charcoal and flavoring agents. At this point it was more commonly known as tooth powder or dentifrice. As the 1800s rolled on, advancements in technology saw chalk and even soap added to the ingredients, giving it a fragrant smell. It has since evolved to what it is today with the addition of fluoride, calcium and baking soda added to the mix.

    Significance

    • Toothpaste is used to cleanse the mouth of plaque bacteria that is left behind residually from food that was eaten. This bacteria contains hundreds of microorganisms responsible for breaking down the enamel of the teeth and causing bad breath. Toothpaste contains abrasives which help scour away plaque from the teeth, remove stains and polish the teeth all at the same time.

    Features

    • Many toothpastes have been approved by the American Dental Association, or ADA as it's called. A toothpaste that has been approved by it is considered to be of top quality. For quick reference, there will be a little symbol on the tube with the initials ADA inside it.

    Types

    • Different types of toothpaste have come in the market, with new ones popping up every day. There are toothpastes with agents for tartar control, whitening and gum hypersensitivity; smoker's toothpaste and all-natural toothpaste are other kinds. Some even combine these different features.

    Expert Insight

    • There are some people who are opposed to using fluoride and other artificial ingredients that a lot of every day toothpastes have. They resort to all natural versions that are made up of essential oils, herbs and extracts. A great company that specializes in this is Jason. They have a toothpaste called Powersmile that is outstanding. Their website is attached below.
