History
-
Gevalia, pronounced "Juh-vol-ya," began it's inception in 1853 in a small Sweedish seaport. There, Victor Engwall founded a company that would search throughout the world for coffee varieties that Europeans had yet to have the chance to taste and discover. As coffee became more and more important in Sweden, Engwall's customers were becoming obsessed with finding new and different coffees. Engwall began experimenting with different combinations of beans and with roasting techniques. He was trying to develop the perfect cup of coffee.
Significance
-
For many years, Gevalia searched for that perfect combination of beans. During his quest, the King of Sweden, Gustav, was taking a trip through the Baltic. He visited the tiny port town of Gavle, where Engwall was doing his work. The king was so impressed by the taste of the coffee, he appointed Gevalia as the coffee purveyor to the Royal Court.
