Since the beginning of time, individuals have desired to interact with other individuals. These desires have led to friendships and romantic relationships. While there are some individuals who say they don't need or want a relationship, there are many others who do want a relationship. Despite the fact that relationships are formed all the time, starting a relationship is usually the hardest part.

From Quick Guide: Singles Guide

    Types

  1. There are several different types of relationships. The main differences in these relationships is the seriousness of the relationship and the different features of the relationship. The two basic types of relationships are monogamous and non-monogamous relationships. Monogamous relationships are based on a mutual desire to be each other's one and only while non-monogamous relationships are based on physical desires and gratification. Of the two relationships, a monogamous relationship takes longer and more effort to start, while a non-monogamous relationship can be started instantaneously.
  2. Benefits

  3. There are many benefits to starting a relationship. However, the main benefit is companionship. Whether you are in a monogamous relationship or a non-monogamous relationship, your desire for companionship will be filled. This companionship can be physical, mental, or both. In addition, starting a relationship gives you a special bond with another human being. This will give you some form of fulfillment and security.
  4. Significance

  5. The significance of starting a relationship depends on the type of relationship that you are in. For example, a monogamous relationship would provide consistent companionship and friendship. On the contrary, a non-monogamous relationship would provide companionship when both parties desire it. The significant difference between the two is that a non-monogamous relationship is usually based on physical needs and desires while a monogamous relationship is based on physical, mental and emotional needs.
  6. Misconceptions

  7. Some individuals may believe that starting a non-monogamous relationship can lead to a monogamous one. While this may happen occasionally, it is not something that happens often. If you want a monogamous relationship, be upfront about your desires at the start of the relationship. If the other individual, doesn't feel the same about making the relationship monogamous, it is likely the relationship will never grow into that. What it boils down to is that you shouldn't believe that you can turn a non-monogamous relationship into a monogamous one.
  8. Expert Insight

  9. Choose your relationships wisely and be honest with yourself and the other individual in the relationship. If you don't want a monogamous relationship, tell the other person that at the start of the relationship. Not telling them is deceptive and leads the other individual to believe that a more serious relationship is possible when in fact it is not. Understand that if someone can't give you what you need in a relationship, it's time to move on and find someone who can give you what you need.
