Boys' haircuts can vary from a simple, no-fuss style to a fashionable, trend-setting look that involves design detail. By utilizing scissors, combs and electric clippers, a hair professional or even a licensed cosmetologist can achieve the haircut a boy is seeking.

    Significance

  1. A boy's haircut allows the hair to be maintained in a hygienic way and to look fashionable. Most boys have haircuts that are either easy to wear or come in longer styles that make more of a fashion statement.
  2. Types

  3. There are several main types of boys' haircuts and then variations in other cuts are fashioned or styled from those cuts. A standard cut is typically trimmed around the ears, the back of the neck and cut into bangs in the forehead area. A buzz cut or crew cut is also popular for boys and involves cutting the hair down to almost the scalp with clippers or various lengths in between. A longer more shag style is achieved by fraying the edges of the hair and bangs as well as trimming areas around the face; layering may also be implemented for fashion flair with a shag look. For African American hair, a flattop and a fade style are utilized with clippers and a comb to blend the hair into different lengths to achieve the looks.
  4. Time Frame

  5. Standard haircuts last around four to six weeks for most hairstyles. Hair grows half an inch every four weeks on average. Some hair styles need to be trimmed every two weeks, such as a part on the scalp of an African American hairstyle as well as a bald top fade, which needs to be kept short at all times.
  6. Features

  7. Some of the features of boys' haircuts would be different variations in length, such as layering on the top and fading in the back. Layering can be achieved mainly in longer hairstyles that are over half of an inch in length and provide a longer look on the top and shorter look on the bottom as the hair is tapered to the back of the neck. A fade is especially popular in African American hairstyles due to the texture of the hair.
  8. Identification

  9. One can identify a boy's haircut by fresh edges on the ends of the hair; typically it is cut short but doesn't necessarily have to be. The identification of no split ends or jagged ends of hair is also a good signal that a fresh haircut has taken place. Hair that is cut away from the eyes, ears and neck is also a sign that a boy has just received a haircut.
