- The name "fedora" is the result of a play and the main character who wore a hat. The play was performed in 1882. The main character who wore this stylish hat is Princess Fedora Romazova. Hence, the name fedora. Since then, however, due to mobsters such as Bugsy Siegel and Al Capone, this hat has become known as being popular with gangsters. Eventually it became known in the upper-class as a clothing accessory.
