History

ADT's Security Detection and Prevention foundation was founded in 1874. Located in Boca Raton, Florida, it used telegraph technologies for security protection. Function

ADT has more than 55,000 employees to install and monitor all of its alarm systems. Every burglar alarm is connected with one of ADT's Customer Monitoring Centers. The CMC will know when an alarm is set off. Once the burglar alarm signal is examined and recorded, ADT personnel will respond accordingly. They will investigate the cause of the alarm by first calling the location to avoid a false alarm and then notifying local police or emergency services. Response time is almost always immediate because ADT has seven Customer Monitoring Centers in North America.

Types

ADT has special burglary alarm systems for homes, small businesses, medium-size and large businesses and for government buildings. Homeowners can purchase a security system for under $100 plus a monthly fee. This basic package includes an ADT SafeWatch QuickConnect security system, alarm monitoring service and other amenities. It also has other more expensive packages for advanced levels of security.
