Lip liner has been used for years to make lips look more full and colorful. Outlining lips coated with lipstick with a lip liner gives the face a professionally finished appearance. Temporary and permanent options are available for those who choose to wear lip liner.

    Function

  1. Keeping lipstick in its place is the main function of a lip liner. When carefully applied, a lip liner outlines the perimeter of the mouth, where the lips meet facial skin. This barrier prevents lipstick from bleeding into the fine lines around the mouth. Lip liner also defines the lip area, making them look fuller and more pronounced. Lipstick or lip gloss is then applied inside the line of lip liner.
  2. Benefits

  3. Using lip liner will make a smile bigger and more prominent. The lip liner will enhance, and draw attention to the smile. Color will last longer on the lips with the use of a lip liner. Long after the lipstick or gloss has worn off, the lip liner will remain, giving the lips some added color, and providing an outline for lipstick application.
  4. Features

  5. Lip liner is available in two ways: a disposable product and a permanent product. The pencil style lip liner can be sharpened like any pencil. The tip can be made pointy or more rounded by touching the tip softly. The liner is soft and creamy, but more firm than lipstick. Lip liner is also available in a liquid form. This is more difficult to control, and should only be used by an experienced makeup artist. Cosmetic surgery is available for the permanent application of lip liner. This method of applying lip liner is done at a doctor's offic, and is irreversible. The appearance of make up is essentially tattooed onto the lips.
  6. Risk Factors

  7. Permanent makeup cannot be changed without damage to the skin. If a person decided later that she doesn't like to color of the permanent lip liner, she is out of luck. Removal of permanent makeup can cause scarring. The use of temporary lip liners is safe, but can smudge when drinking, kissing or wiping the face.
  8. Time Frame

  9. When using a regular lip liner, it will need to be re-applied after bathing, swimming and eating. Permanent makeup will not be effected.
