About Different Types of Volunteering

Volunteering is a wonderful way to pay forward kindness that you have received in your life. Different types of volunteering are available for virtually any type of cause you care about, from helping out with church missions to raising money to fight a widespread disease. Volunteering is an excellent way to meet like-minded people and to contribute to people who are less fortunate than yourself.

From Quick Guide: Volunteer Work

    Identification

  1. Volunteering is any task that a person does without receiving any form of compensation. Volunteers participate in activities because they care about the charity or community.
  2. Type

  3. Multiple types of volunteering opportunities are available through a wide range of charities. If you have a talent in any area, then volunteering opportunities are available, such as building a Habitat for Humanity house, singing for residents at a nursing home or tutoring a child who is having trouble learning how to read. Many types of volunteering opportunities are available that require no special skills, from making lemonade for the people building a Habitat for Humanity house to shelving books in the school library.
  4. Significance

  5. Volunteering with different types of organizations can make a huge difference in society as a whole. Schools with a high level of volunteering tend to offer a better education to their students because teachers can focus on teaching while volunteers help in the classroom. Some charities, such as dog rescues, simply cannot function without a high level of volunteering. All types of charities are more efficient when the level of volunteering is high.
  6. Benefits

  7. In addition to the obvious benefits to the charities, different types of volunteering provide benefits to the volunteers. Volunteering at your child's school results in the staff being more attentive to the needs of your child. Volunteering with a phone hotline helps a volunteer to feel good about the difference he made in another person's life. Most volunteers report that they find volunteering very rewarding.
  8. Time Frame

  9. Many people choose not to volunteer, even when they care about a cause, because they believe that they must devote many hours to volunteering. The time frame for different types of volunteering varies greatly and many charities would greatly appreciate your volunteering even only one hour of your time. For example, a charity might need volunteers to place phone calls from home, at your convenience, to recruit other volunteers to help with a task.
  10. Effects

  11. The effects of volunteering are huge in society. Children who see different types of volunteering in their schools learn to care about their community as a whole instead of just their own families. Inmates who attend Bible studies run by volunteers have a higher rehabilitation rate. Plugging into the community through volunteering makes the world a better place.
