Ablation is performed when it is necessary to remove tissue and sometimes body parts from a section of the body. Ablation may be performed on the skin as well as internal organs or tissue. One of the most common types of ablation is called endometrial ablation, which is performed to stop heavy menstrual bleeding. During endometrial ablation the lining of the endometrius is destroyed. This is an outpatient procedure that does not usually require overnight hospitalization.
